Let Go

"Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose."
--Yoda

Let go.  Let go of all of your issues.

Sound simple?  Actually, it is.

My therapist told me this story.  After that, i began 'letting go'.

Two buddhist monks were walking through the woods and came upon a river.  They had to cross the river to continue their journey.

As they prepared to cross the river, they saw an elderly woman nervously pacing back-and-forth.  She, too, had to cross the river; however, due to her age, she was physically unable to do so.

Buddhist monks are not allowed to touch people.  So, by their belief system rules, they could not help the woman get across the river.

However, buddhist monks are not without compassion.  So the first monk picked the woman up and carried her across the river.  When they got across the river, the first monk helped the woman regain her upright position, she thanked him, and the woman went on her way.  The two buddhist monks continued on their journey.

About an hour later, the second buddhist monk turned to the first one and said, "I'm troubled by something.  When you carried that woman across the river, you touched her.  You know we are not allowed to touch people.  Your behaviour is troubling."

The first buddhist monk replied, "I set her down an hour ago.  It appears you are still carrying her around."

Do you want to continue to carry around your prior actions, your issues, your failures, your angst, and other things that trouble you?  Do you want to let these things trouble you for the rest of your life?

Let them go.  You'll feel a lot better.
